GROQ
AI startup Groq has teamed up with Saudi oil giant Aramco to create what they say will be the world’s largest AI inferencing center in Saudi Arabia, targeting services for the Middle East, Africa, and India.
Key Highlights
The data center will initially feature 19,000 language processing units (LPUs), with the capacity to expand to 200,000 units, making it potentially the largest AI inferencing center in the world.
Aramco is funding the project, which is expected to cost "in the order of nine figures," highlighting Saudi Arabia's dedication to advancing AI infrastructure.
The center will take advantage of Saudi Arabia's benefits, including low energy costs, available land, and its strategic location near 4 billion people, ensuring data travel within just 100 milliseconds.
Groq expects the center to be operational by the end of 2024, with opportunities for further collaboration between Groq and Aramco.
Why it's a big deal: This partnership underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to AI and demonstrates Groq's ability to expand its rapid AI inference infrastructure. It could significantly speed up the development of near-instantaneous chatbot responses, marking a crucial advancement after recent breakthroughs in chain-of-thought processes, such as OpenAI’s o1 model.
Breaking News: Microsoft has just launched the latest version of its AI assistant, Copilot, adding new features and extending its integration to Microsoft 365 apps, including Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, Word, and OneDrive.
